MEDICATION POLICY: In accordance with recommendations from the State Department of Education, the administration of Franklin City Schools attempts to discourage the administration of medication to students during school hours and requests whenever possible that medication doses be scheduled during other than school hours.
Local procedures for administering medication to students require:
Written orders from a physician on the required school form detailing the name of the drug, dosage, time of administration, possible side effects and treatment of side effects.
The signature of parent or guardian on the required school form requesting that Franklin City Public Schools comply with the physician's orders.
Medication may be brought to the school in the original container - appropriately labeled by the pharmacy or physician.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Virginia law requires that parents have their children immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), poliomyelitis, measles (Rubeola), German Measles (Rubella) and mumps before the child begins school. A certificate from a licensed physician stating the dates on which the child was immunized against these diseases is required. No pupil is admitted for the first time to any public kindergarten or elementary school without proof of a physical examination by a physician no earlier than 12 months before entering school.
Virginia law also requires sixth-graders have documentation of two doses of measles vaccine.
REGISTER NOW: New students should be registered at the appropriate school now from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, until the start of school. In addition, a specific registration date has been scheduled for Joseph P. King and S.P. VIPS offers a wide range of activities for the interested individual that include classroom assistants, cafeteria monitors, clerical assistants, playground monitors, assistants for field trips and special events, classroom visitors/guest speakers, library assistants, tutors, mentors and student health services assistants.
