A hardware store on Mercury Boulevard was evacuated Wednesday after employees complained of throat and mouth dryness, teary eyes and chest tightness.
Fire department personnel answered a call from the Home Quarters Warehouse at 2211 W. Mercury Blvd. shortly before noon. Four employees were taken to Sentara Hampton General Hospital for testing and observation.
No measurable levels of toxic materials were found at the store, nor were there any signs of a spill or release, said the Fire Department spokesman. The store was reopened at 2:30 p.m.
Company officials refused to comment.
