Robert Lee Spivey Jr., 87, of Route 3, Box 282, Hertford, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 1994, in Brian Care Center.
A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Spivey and Lavinia Mathews Spivey and the widower of Edith Bogue Spivey. He was a retired farmer and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Mr. Spivey was a member of Durants Neck Ruritan Club and formerly served as district zone governor for the Albemarle District Ruritans and past national director for Ruritan National. He was a member of Perquimans Masonic Lodge (NU)106, New Bern Scottish Rite Consistory, the Perquimans County Scottish Rite Club, Sudan Shrine Temple and the Elizabeth City Shrine Club.
Active in civic activities, he served as chairman of the Perquimans County Commissioners for 18 years, chairman of the Albemarle Law & Order Commission and member of the Albemarle District Jail Commission and the Albemarle Mental Health Board.
Survivors include two brothers, Carson D. Spivey Sr. and Lawrence H. Spivey, both of Hertford, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Wood Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Rattz officiating. Swindell Funeral Home of Hertford is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home of Carson D. Spivey Jr., Route 3, Box 289, Hertford.
