Eleven Chesapeake teenagers modeled clothing in a program called ``Project the Right Look for Back to School'' sponsored by Proffitts Stores on July 30 at Greenbrier Mall. And so, on Saturday, there will be a live mannequin show at the Proffitts store at Chesapeake Square Mall.
Participants in these events are hoping to be selected to participate in a new teen advisory board soon to be appointed by the stores.
``Proffitts has a strong program for teens in our Tennessee market,'' said Tom Eitt, manager of the Greenbrier Proffitts. ``We're trying to import that program to our stores here. We didn't have a chance to start this off last year after we opened. So this year, in conjunction with Charm Associates and Clinique Cosmetics, we will do what we hope will be an annual Teen Board search on the Southside.''
Eitt's goal is to find 10 teenagers per store for their three Hampton Roads stores located at Greenbrier Mall, Chesapeake Square and Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach.
The new teen board will participate in occasional informal modeling, special events and the company's Adopt-A-School program.
Members of the Teen Board will benefit in numerous ways.
``In conjunction with Clinique, they'll get free cosmetic advice and free T-shirts. Obviously, we'll give them part-time jobs in the summer if they'd like that,'' he said. ``There will be seminars on merchandising by members of the management team. It will also be a good positive extra-curricular activity, and it will look good on their resumes.
``From our side we'll expose them to fashion merchandising, special events we have in the stores, and the chance to participate in some of our events in the community,'' Eitt said.
Barbara Lewis, owner of Charm Associates, will help coordinate the teen board.
``We are the people who do fashion shows for Proffitts,'' Lewis said. ``They asked us to put together a teen board. Those who are chosen will be on the teen board for the school year and can apply for the following year.''
Selection to the board will be based on good grooming and positive school image. To qualify, hopefuls must be graduates of Charm Associates or be enrolled in their program. Members will be chosen by the first of October, Lewis said.
``Members of the teen board will have to keep up their image at school,'' Lewis said. ``If they are going to have their picture in our stores, then they'll have to live up to the image because they'll be representing the store.'' MEMO: More information is available by calling Barbara Lewis at Charm
