Donald Feder begins his Aug. 15 column with a quote attributed to Teddy Roosevelt: ``Every time he opens his mouth, he detracts from the sum total of human wisdom.'' I've never heard Mr. Feder speak, but every time he sits at his word processor, he contributes to the sum total of human idiocy.
For example, he makes the usual snipe at Bill Clinton's draft record. Never mind that stalwart conservatives such as Pat Buchanan and Newt Gingrich also avoided military service during the Vietnam War, both due to ``bad knees.'' Perhaps Tonya Harding was around in the '60s, whacking away at right-wingers.
I can understand your paper's turn to a more conservative stance. But couldn't you print more of George Will and William F. Buckley Jr.? Or must your readers be subjected daily to such mediocrities as Feder and Cal Thomas?
