A 20-year-old man sought by police in the shooting of a 5-year-old boy and two other people was arrested Friday.
David Edward Hitchcock was charged with two counts of maiming and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and was being held in the Newport News City Jail without bond Friday.
On Friday night, police identified a second suspect they are seeking in connection with the Thursday shootings.
Kevin Canady, 18, of the 900 block of 17th St., is wanted on two counts of maiming and two counts of use of a firearm while commiting a felony.
Canady is described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall, and 180 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a medium complexion, a moustache and short hair. He is considered armed and dangerous.
The boy, Andre Grady, was listed in critical condition Friday at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk. Also wounded was William Askins, 20.
Witnesses told police that Andre was visiting his grandmother, Margaret Horne, for the summer. He was riding his bike outside her home at 3:50 p.m. in the 900 block of 20th St. when a car pulled up and a person inside started shooting.
The car drove off, and police believe its occupants were involved in another shooting in which Malcholm Vega, 32, was wounded. Vega and Askins were both treated at hospitals and released.
