HAROLD FRANK CRIST

Captain Harold Frank Crist, USN (Ret.), 84, of the 4600 block of Reynolds Drive, died Aug. 23, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Captain Crist was born in Green Bay, Wis. He graduated in 1933 from the U.S. Naval Academy.

He was the Executive Officer on the USS Augusta, transporting President Harry Truman across the Atlantic for the Potsdam Conference in July, 1945. Captain Crist culminated his naval career with the commissioning of the Naval Missile Training Station at Dam Neck, Va., where he was assigned as its first Commanding Officer.

He received a master of science degree in mathematics from Duke University and taught in the Virginia Beach public school system, as well as at several Virginia colleges.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hopkins Crist; a son, Michael Warner Crist of Norfolk; a daughter, Patricia Crist Parsons of Chula Vista, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Carol Eileen Rooney of Virginia Beach and Debra Elise Phillips of Chesapeake; a brother, Dr. Clarence Chrest of Oro Valley, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Jane Stanosz of Greenfield, Wis.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel by Captain James F. Mennis, ChC USN. Arrangements are by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, Hope Haven, or your favorite charity.
