Will the real Oliver North please stand up? So many statements or comments have been made by Mr. North and others that it is difficult for me, and no doubt others, to decide who Mr. North is or what he actually believes.
Carl S. Simpson stated (letter, Aug. 12) that the only reason he is going to vote for Oliver North is that ``he scares the pants off the professional politicians.''
Mr. North has been very critical of Congress, but recent news reports noted his association/meetings with politicians Kemp, Dole and Helms. Perhaps North and Simpson consider these men to be ``amateur'' politicians!
Mr. North reported to Robert McFarlane for roughly four years at the White House. Mr. McFarlane published an article commenting on his experiences with Mr. North.
Two quotes from that article:
1. ``That experience and a lot of thought about Ollie North in the years since, the word that comes closest to describing him to me is fanatic.''
2. ``Whatever North may tell you today has nothing to do with what he will do tomorrow.''
Who or what is the real Oliver North?
