GANG MEMBER SLAIN: An ongoing dispute between two youth gangs escalated to homicide early Sunday when a 17-year-old was shot while attending a party. Police are seeking a 16-year-old they believe did the drive-by shooting.
The shooting occurred about 1:35 a.m. in the 5100 block of East Princess Anne Road.
Police spokesman Larry Hill said Jarrell Stokes, 17, of the 1800 block of McDowell Road was struck in his side by a bullet an died two hours later at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
``The motive was an ongoing dispute between two gangs,'' Hill said.
Hill characterized the shooting as a ``retaliatory situation.''
Stokes was one of a number of youths attending a party being held outside a residence when a small car drove by and an occupant fired several shots.
Police have obtained warrants for the arrest of a 16-year-old, charging him with murder and using a firearm while committing a felony. The suspect remains at large.
