Henry R. Battle, 65, of the 400 block of Fairfield Drive, died Aug. 29, 1994, in a hospital.
Mr. Battle was born in Montevallo, Ala., and was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1966 and from the U.S.N.R. in 1976. He also retired from Sears at Greenbrier Mall.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. McPherson Battle; two daughters, Christine Atkins of Norfolk and Beverly Bengies of Chesapeake; four sons, Mason Battle of Atlanta, Wayne Waibel and Roger Sawyer, both of Chesapeake, and Elton Sawyer of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Vera Strickland of Wilsonville, Ala., and Elizabeth A. Donavon of Pelham, Ala.; five brothers, James W. Battle of Homewood, Ala., Edward M. Battle of Fayette, Ala., Ralph Battle of Columbiana, Ala., Willard R. Battle of Birmingham, Ala., and John M. Battle of Helena, Ala.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack M. Battle.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by the Rev. Robert J. Sowder. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
