Elwood M. Forbes, 69, of the 1400 block of Buff St., died Aug. 29, 1994, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born in Old Trap, N.C., and retired in 1986 as a conductor for the Norfolk and Western Railroad with 40 years of service. He was a member of South Norfolk Church of Christ in Chesapeake, where he was a former elder. He was also a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, a member and past master of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)339, a member of Old Timers Club of South Norfolk, and of the South Norfolk Mosquito Control Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie C. Forbes; two sons, Larry E. Forbes of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Stanley L. Forbes of Chesapeake; one sister, Marion Wilson of Chesapeake; and three grandchildren, Nickie Forbes and Scott Forbes, both of Chesapeake, and Kristen Forbes of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel by the Rev. John Keane. Masonic Rites will be accorded at the burial in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
