Virginia Power vying for DOE contract: Virginia Power will be part of a team led by a subsidiary of Asea Brown Boveri Inc. vying for a contract to design and build casks for storing and transporting spent nuclear fuel from the nation's commercial reactors. The Richmond-based utility said Tuesday that it is one of five companies involved in the bid for the U.S. Department of Energy contract, which could be worth $100 million or more. The Windsor, Conn.-based ABB's Combustion Engineering Nuclear Systems unit is the team leader. Virginia Power and Newport News Shipbuilding had originally been partners in the cask project. They went separate ways last spring. Newport News now leads its own team seeking the contract, expected to be awarded in March 1995. Up to 10 teams of companies are expected to seek the contract. by CNB
