BRIDGET H. MCCARTHY

Bridget Theresa ``Beatrice'' Hester McCarthy, 82, of Portsmouth, New York and Ireland, died Aug. 31, 1994 in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Born in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, she emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in the 1920s. She lived briefly in Paterson, N.J. and Baltimore before marrying and settling in Woodside, N.Y. She was for many years an active parishoner at Corpus Christi Parish, Woodside, teaching religious education classes and coordinating the activities of the Altar Society. More recently, she was a member of St. Paul's Parish, Portsmouth.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Timothy, a native of Co. Limerick, Ireland; sisters, Mary, Una and Kathleen; brothers, Joseph and Martin.

She is survived and treasured by four sons, John Patrick of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Kevin Joseph of Twin Peaks, Calif., Timothy Lawrence and Terrence Brendan of New York; dearly loved by her daughter, Dr. Maureen McCarthy, with whom she lived for many years.

She also leaves eight cherished grandchildren, John McCarthy of Fairfield, Conn., Peter and David McCarthy of Stamford, Conn., Maria, Anna, Alexander, Jennifer and Kevin McCarthy of California; three adored great-grandchildren, Sean, Amanda and Lisa McCarthy; two beloved sisters, Sarah Warren of Pikesville, Md. and Peg Ellis of Liverpool, England; four devoted sisters-in-law, Josie Hester of Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, Jenny McCarthy of Bronx, N.Y., Vera Hester of Pearl River, N.Y. and Hannah McCarthy of Co. Limerick, Ireland; also many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Her family was her life and is her legacy.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Joseph S. Slowik officiating. A Christian wake service will be held in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, at 7 p.m. today with the family receiving friends afterward until 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses for her happy repose or memorial donations made to the Columban Fathers, St. Columbans, NE 68056.
