Lewis Rawls Hicks, 71, of the 4400 block of Woodland Drive, a retired postal clerk, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994, in Maryview Medical Center.
Mr. Hicks was born in Suffolk. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Jolliff United Methodist Church and the John Wyant Bible Class; American Legion Post (NU)57, Suffolk; a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (NU)2582; National Rifle Association of America; AARP; the Izaak Walton League of America (Suffolk-Nansemond Chapter); National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and past president of Chesapeake Taxpayers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Weaver Hicks; two sons, Robert Lewis Hicks of Suffolk and Lloyd Hunter Hicks of Mechanicsville, Va.; three brothers, M. McCoy Hicks, Nemiah E. Hicks and Gibson C. Hicks, all of Suffolk; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Kate Hicks and John Robert Hicks, both of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Ben Hadley-Goggin. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Jolliff United Methodist Church, 1900 Jolliff Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23321.
