Police arrested two men on Thursday and charged them in the slaying of a long-distance truck driver, and in the shooting of his companion.
Police charged Ashton M. Burke II, 36, and Kevin Dilworth, 34, with murder, malicious assault and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both men live in the 4800 block of Shell Road, police spokesman Lou Thurston said.
They are accused of killing Michael S. Owens, 27, of Memphis, Tenn., in the 5800 block of Burton Station Road on Aug. 24. Police said Owens and fellow trucker Edwin W. Proplech, 39, of Omaha, Neb., were trying to buy drugs when they were shot.
Owens died at the scene. Proplech ran to a nearby residence.
Owens' murder was the city's 30th, an all-time high.
Burke and Dilworth are being held in the city jail without bail.
