Two public meetings, scheduled for next week in Northeastern North Carolina to discuss a plan for protecting striped bass have been delayed, the Division of Marine Fisheries announced Friday.
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the state Division of Marine Fisheries and the Wildlife Resources Commission will hold public meetings Sept. 19 and 20 to discuss pending changes in the Atlantic Coast Striped Bass Management Plan, instead of next week.
The Atlantic States commission, a compact of Atlantic coast states charged with regulating coastal fisheries, has proposed that North Carolina's striped bass ocean fishery be allowed increased harvests. But the compact proposes maintaining restrictions on the striped bass catch in the Roanoke River and the Albemarle Sound.
The meetings will now be Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the N.C. Aquarium in Manteo and Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at Halifax Community College in Weldon.
