MINNIE A. JONES

Mrs. Minnie Alston Jones, of the 800 block of Seminole Drive, Suffolk, died Sept. 9, 1994, at her residence. A native of Warrenton, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Celeste Boiseau Alston. She was the widow of the Rev. William Jones.

She was a member of the New First Baptist Church, Hosier Road, Suffolk, the Board of Suffolk Meals On Wheels, the Light House for the Blind, and the Suffolk Homemakers Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Alma Griffin of Suffolk, Mrs. Carol Porter and Miss Shirley Jones, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, Vernon Jones and Warren Porter, both of Brooklyn; three brothers, Elijah Alston and Samuel Alston, both of Suffolk, and Ralph Alston of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Walter Griffin Jr. of Queens, N.Y., and Angela Jones Braithwaite of Brooklyn; a great-grandchild, Nia Braithwaite of Brooklyn; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Verna Alston and Mrs. Mary Nell Alston, both of Suffolk, and Mrs. Wanda Alston of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony Copeland. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
