Marquel N. ``Maine'' Powell, 23, of the 1200 block of Darren Drive, a warehouseman, died Sept. 8, 1994, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Powell was born in Portsmouth. He was employed with Tru-Value Hardware Store. He was a former member of St. Paul Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jewanda Powell of Virginia Beach; two sons, Marquel and Jaquel Powell of Portsmouth and Virginia Beach; his parents, Annie B. Artis and Joseph H. Powell Sr. of Portsmouth; seven sisters, Lillian Moore of Hillside, N.J., and Betty Reese, Julia Powell, Rosalind Powell, Barbara Wilson and Jovan Artis, all of Portsmouth and Annie Sellers of New York; two brothers, Rodney Powell and Joseph H. Powell Jr., both of Portsmouth; his stepfather, Richard R. Artis of Portsmouth; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a devoted companion, Kimberly Penerton of Portsmouth.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Olive Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. J.B. Sharp and the Rev. Jonathan Powell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at 3 p.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday.
