Slicing scimitars, roaring Harley-Davidsons, playful clowns, miniature Corvettes and marching drummers in harem pants mean one thing in Virginia Beach. The Shriners are back in town. More than 12,500 Shriners from the Mid-Atlantic Shrine Association held their annual convention here last week. As usual, the group's parade was the hit of the week. Thousands of people flocked to Atlantic Avenue Saturday morning to see the Shriners at their best - marching in their fezzes, playing their bagpipes and passing out treats and smiles to the crowds lining the sidewalks. The local Khedive Temple was the host this year. The Mid-Atlantic district includes Virginia, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, New York, West Virginia and New Jersey.
