CLEARED OF 2 FONDLING CHARGES

A former Virginia Beach teacher was acquitted Tuesday of charges he fondled two First Colonial High School students while inspecting their uniforms.

William A. Ehrig, 50, formerly of the 1800 block of Eden Way, still faces charges that he fondled two other students.

Ehrig, an ROTC instructor and retired Navy chief petty officer, was charged in January with fondling the four students, who were in the school's ROTC program. Three of the students who complained against Ehrig were 16, and the other was 15.

Ehrig's attorney, Robert G. Morecock, said Ehrig suffered financially because of the charges. He was suspended without pay, lost his house and had to move to Georgia. Ehrig had been teaching at First Colonial for seven years, police said.
