James Perry Layton, 43, of the 300 block of W. McGinnis Circle, passed away Sept. 12, 1994, at his residence.
Mr. Layton was born in Portsmouth. He was an international representative/general organizer for International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers. He was a member of the National Audubon Society, National Member-Smithsonian Associates and International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local (NU)684. He was a 1969 graduate of Lake Taylor High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Layton; a stepson, Kenneth R. Knowles Jr. of Chesapeake; his parents, Ellen Layton and James S. Layton of Norfolk; and four sisters, Sharon Blazejack of Jordan, Minn., Carole Cheslik of Norfolk, Carla Moore of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kim Osborn of Norfolk.
A funeral was conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Steve Wiseman. Burial was in Hampton National Cemetery with full military honors accorded at the grave.
