A $700,000 allocation by the city for site improvements at Tidewater Community College sets the stage for construction of a second main building on the school's Cedar Road campus.
The city will pay for site improvements at TCC's Chesapeake campus, and the state will fund a new 30,000-square-foot building. The city funds will be used for exterior lighting, walkways and parking lots.
Other classroom buildings on the campus were left over from a college that once occupied the grounds. Many of the old buildings are scheduled to be demolished, said Al Cecchini, the college's director of facilities management.
The first new TCC building, built in 1979, is named after the college's late president, George B. Pass, and stands in front of the lot scheduled for the new building.
``The ultimate plan for the project will call for multiple buildings, as funding becomes available,'' said Cecchini.
The unnamed new building, he said, will house horticulture labs, about six classrooms and office space. Contractors will begin work on the building this week. by CNB
