CHURCH PREPARING FOR ITS FALL BAZAAR EBENEZER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HOPES TO RAISE $3,600 AT BAZAAR.

IT'S FALL BAZAAR TIME in Crittenden on the northern side of Suffolk. The members of Ebenezer United Methodist Church have put together a two-day event that's a blend of fund-raising fun, food and fellowship.

The C.E.& H. Ruritan Club Community House will house the bazaar from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Features will include:

Country Kitchen: Home-canned goods will line the shelves. A storehouse of everything from cucumber pickles, pears, pear pickles, pear butter, and tomatoes in half-pint to quart sizes will be available. Also on sale will be fresh vegetables and cooking accessories.

Christmas booth: Looks like Santa's already been to the Crittenden Community House with a sleigh full of holiday treasures: wreaths, crocheted angels, miniature Christmas trees, Noel banners, assorted Santas, bookmarks, door-knockers and much more.

Flower shop: There will be fresh flowers, dried arrangements and potted plants for the home. Bird baths and ceramic statuary will be among the variety of choices for the garden.

Toy shop: Santa's elves outdid themselves for this pre-holiday sale - all sorts of stuffed animals, dolls, trucks and trains will be on sale.

Linen shop: Elegant linens of yesteryear, embroidered tablecloths, laced and tatted sheets and pillowcases and hand-knitted afghans will decorate the shelves.

Candle shop: Hand-poured candles made the old fashioned way will be available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes.

Bake sale: Homemade family recipes and old fashioned goodies will stock this shop with cookies, cakes, pies and other specialties.

Giant yard sale: Furniture and decorative items from an estate closing, clothes, collector bottles, curtains, dishes, glasses, used books and jewelry are among the giant assortment of ``treasures'' available at the Bazaar's Giant Yard Sale.

Food fest: Both days of the bazaar will feature a breakfast menu of coffee and donuts. Lunch fare will include homemade ham rolls and soup, barbecue, hot dogs, coffee and soft drinks. Dinner will be available only on Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. Diners have a choice of two entrees - a ham dinner or lasagna dinner. Eat-in and takeout tickets are $5 per adult and $2.50 for children.

Ideas for our bazaar items came from all over,'' said Mildred Rhyne, bazaar coordinator. Some people got involved in the cooking, some designed crafts and others donated their specialty items.

``The event was sponsored by the Good Will Sunday School Class, but we asked everyone in the church to help in some way,'' Rhyne said.

Every Wednesday since February, some of the church women have gathered to sew and can, craft and create. The result is a building full of merchandise for sale.

Why all the months of planning and hard work?

``Because we don't have good sense,'' Rhyne said with a hearty laugh.

``Our goal is to make $3,600.01,'' Rhyne said. That's one cent over last year's profit. Whatever the end results, all proceeds will go into the church's general fund, she said. MEMO: The Ruritan Community House is on Eclipse Drive off Bridge Road
