A union tradesman affiliated with the AFL/CIO, I received a letter from the local in Norfolk urging me to vote for Robb and Sisisky in the upcoming election. It said Oliver North is ``an enemy of organized labor and of workers in general. Put aside your personal feelings and vote for those who protect your livelihood.'' I disagree totally with this philosophy.
My priorities are God, family, country. The welfare of organized labor is grouped with many as fourth. I'm not against fair wages and job safety, two primary directives of collective bargaining, but financial rewards are the product of education and a good attitude. Job safety is protected by the state and local governments. The American worker can be his/her own worst enemy through greed, the lack of self-pride and a commitment to excellence.
With Democratic control of all three branches of the federal government has come an all-out attack against my three priorities. Mistakes and all, Oliver North is a true Christian. Christ is my livelihood. This I will protect.
