Timothy Briggs, 13, the son of Eddie and Kathy Briggs of Wormington Drive in Chesapeake, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award offered by the Boy Scouts of America.
Briggs is a member of Troop 6, sponsored by Great Bridge Baptist Church. He is an eighth-grade student at Great Bridge Middle School South.
His award was presented at an Eagle Scout court of honor Sept. 10 at Northwest River Park.
Briggs joined Cub Scouts in 1988 and earned his Arrow of Light award in February 1992. His Eagle board of review was held June 22.
His Eagle Scout service project benefited the H.E.R. shelter for battered women in Portsmouth. With the help of his fellow Scouts, he built a corner storage unit to be used in the children's playroom at the shelter, collected school supplies to be distributed at the shelter and held a video party for the children at the shelter.
