YELLOW JACKETS

Experts are predicting yellow jacket populations will reach epidemic proportions this fall in many parts of the country due in part to favorable weather earlier this summer.

To protect against this threat, avoid open refuse areas and keep food covered when eating outdoors. Have problem nests destroyed by professional exterminators, and never swat at flying yellow jackets as frantic motion incites attack.

If stung, treat the area with ice for swelling and take an antihistamine. If an allergic reaction occurs, seek medical attention immediately. For information on treating allergic reactions to yellow jacket stings, call 1-800-23-STING.

Help in eradicating bees or wasps is available by calling 429-3134 or digital pager number 626-9244.
