JOYCE C. OWENS

Joyce C. Owens, 51, of the 3600 block of Atlantic Ave., died Oct. 5, 1994, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of John E. and Annie Rae Chamblee of Edenton, N.C. She was a real estate agent with Prudential Decker Realty. She attended Unity Church of Tidewater and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Joyce loved people. She enjoyed cooking and traveling.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kelly Hutchens, and her husband, Jim, of Chesapeake; a son, Dan E. Griffin Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Judy Watkins, and her husband, Bubba, of Chesapeake; three stepdaughters, Faye Owens of Baltimore, Tracy Bugas, and her husband, Dan, of Manakin Sabot, Va., Beth Knopik, and her husband, Steve, of Sarasota, Fla.; one stepson, Barry Owens, and his wife, Barbie, of Virginia Beach; three aunts, Bessie Dilday, Mary Wiggins Overton and Dot Williford, all of Ahoskie; an uncle, Robert Chamblee of Ahoskie; two nieces, Leiann Watkins of Marco Island, Fla., and Connie Utterback of Portsmouth; a nephew, Jimmy Watkins of Edenton; a very special friend and companion, Bill Hinton; and a host of very dear friends and relatives. Joyce will be missed by all of them.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Joyce Kramer. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
