Ford Motor Co. will use aerospace technology developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Langley Research Center in Hampton.
Ford and NASA Langley announced Thursday that the automaker will use several technologies to improve manufacturing processes.
It's the first such agreement between an automaker and the research center in Hampton.
``By sharing technology with corporations like Ford, NASA is helping to increase the economic competitiveness of the nation,'' said Joseph Heyman, director of the NASA-Langley Technology Applications Group. The technology will be applied to advanced studies in the areas of adhesive bonding, vehicle wiring and airflow, emissions, fuel economy and electrical and cooling systems.
``This cooperative program will provide Ford with a tremendous amount of research to improve the design and engineering of our vehicles,'' said David Hagen, an engineering manager at Ford. ``We evaluated more than 60 NASA (Langley) technologies before deciding on the areas that would be the most beneficial for the company.'' by CNB
