``RED OCTOBER'' LEADS TUESDAY FORUMS

The creation of special effects for the Oscar-winning movie, ``Hunt for Red October,'' will be the topic of the opening lecture in the Tuesday Forum series at noon Tuesday at the Commodore Theater, 421 High St.

The speakers will be David and Ellie Merriman of Virginia Beach, who created the special effects. The Merrimans will use miniatures, models and slides to demonstrate techniques used for movies.

The Tuesday Forum, sponsored by the Portsmouth Public Library with a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, is free and open to the public. by CNB
