Hazel Carden Nelson, a native of Clover, Va., and a Peninsula resident for the past 53 years, died Saturday, October 15, 1994. She presently volunteered at the Abby Aldrich Rockfeller Museum after retiring from the Colonial Williamsburg Historical Staff. She was a member of North Riverside Baptist Church; the Newport News Women's Club; the Merrywood Garden Club; and the Lawn Bowling Association of Williamsburg.
Survivors include a daughter, Robbie N. LeCompte of Virginia Beach; a son, CDR James M. Nelson (USN,Ret.) of Woodbury, NJ; a sister, Janie Crews of Crystal Hill, VA; a brother, Harry Carden of Chatham, VA; five grandchildren, Jon Harden, Ashlie Harden, Julie Nelson, Laurie Nelson and Mason LeCompte; and a great- grandchild, Avery Harden.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am Monday in North Riverside Baptist Church by Dr. John S. Carpenter, Jr.
The family will receive friends 7-9 pm Sunday in Peninsula Funeral Home.
