Samuel A. Smith Sr., of the 2700 block of Meadow Drive E., died Monday, Oct. 17, 1994.
Mr. Smith was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a supervisor in 1969 after over 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sybil Carmeta Johnson; three sons, Samuel A. Smith Jr. of Chesapeake, Robert G. Smith of Williamsburg and R. Paul Smith of Alexandria, La.; a daughter, Martha Ann Johnson of Bedford, Pa.; three brothers, Charles Smith of Savannah, Ga., Herbert Smith and Edwin Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Shirley Purvis of Jacksonville, Fla., Frances Brock and Wyolene Gay of Fort McCoy, Fla.; six grandchildren, Lori Holt, Julie Smith, Robert Smith, Ryan Smith, Joy Johnson and Don Johnson; and a great-grandson, Daniel Holt.
Mr. Smith was a member of Grace and Truth Assembly.
A funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by Don Johnson. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
