CAR OVERTURNS, TRAPPING WOMAN ON EXPRESSWAY

ILLUSTRATION: L. TODD SPENCER

Kempsville rescuers work to free a woman who suffered minor injuries

Monday on the westbound lanes of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk

Expressway near Witchduck Road when her 1986 Mercury Cougar

overturned, trapping her inside. The accident occurred at 11:45

a.m. when the woman's right rear tire blew out, causing her to lose

control of the car. She tried to regain control, but the car hit a

retaining wall and then a Jeep. The Jeep driver was not injured. The

woman had to be cut free and was taken to a hospital.
