Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will mark 129 years of services this weekend with an anniversary celebration.
The celebration begins Sunday at the church at 934 West Little Creek Road and runs through Nov. 6.
``It's a special anniversary for us because we are celebrating a great accomplishment,'' the Rev. Keith Cook said, referring to the new carpeting and pews in the sanctuary.
Cook added that on Sunday the congregation will dedicate a refurbished bell from the steeple of their first church.
``We're very pleased we have some additional things to celebrate and to thank God for,'' he said. ``We're looking forward to a particularly good time.''
Ada Blair, coordinator for the celebration, said the congregation is pleased with the number of events scheduled during the anniver-sary.
The church will have a service Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Queen Street Baptist Church and the following Wednesday night at First Baptist Church Lambert's Point.
The anniversary will continue the following Sunday with ``Friends and Family Day'' and an evening program titled ``Blessed Are the Children.'' The all-music program, which features children from throughout Hampton Roads, will also feature Mount Pleasant's Children's Choir. by CNB
