Henry James Macon, 84, of the 400 block of Mowbray Arch, died Oct. 17, 1994.
Mr. Macon was a retired bank examiner for the Comptroller of Currency, Washington, D.C., and was also employed with the Jones Warehouse Corp. in Norfolk. He was the son of General Francis A. Macon and Caroline Litchford Macon of North Carolina, and a native of Henderson, N.C. He graduated from Maury High School and attended the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and retired as a lieutenant colonel in the 2086th U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. Mr. Macon was a former member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, The Virginia Club, the Navy League, a past president of Downtown Bible Class and a member of the Norfolk Host Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Augusta Wherry Macon; two sisters, Caroline M. Hubbard of Norfolk and Ann Amiss of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a nephew, Nathaniel Macon, and his wife, Vivian, of Bethesda, Md.; and several other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. J. Shepherd Russell. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends this evening in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to The Deacons Fund of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk or the Educational Fund of the College of William and Mary. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
