Groundbreaking for Annetta M. Lane Apartments in Middle Towne Arch will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. The three-story, 40-unit building will house residents who are elderly or handicapped.
The $2,350,800 project will be completed within 18 months. It is sponsored by Southern District No. 1 of the United Order of Tents of J.R. Giddings and Jollifee Union, an organization operated entirely by black women.
The group was founded in the mid-1800s to help escaped slaves. Annetta M. Lane, a former slave, was a founder.
The time for the groundbreaking was changed. An item in today's edition of The Compass, the community section for Norfolk readers, has the wrong time. by CNB
