Captain Stanley Vincent South, U.S. Merchant Marines, 70, of the 3200 block of Raymond Ave., died Oct. 20, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. South was born in Matthews County, Va. He was a retired captain in the U.S. Merchant Marines and also retired as captain for Ogden Marine International. He was a member of America Fellowship Masonic Lodge (NU)148 AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star Esther Chapter (NU)37 and Masters Mates & Pilots in Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife, Georgie Liles South; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane Davis and Harold Gordon Davis of Rockwood, Tenn., and Brenda Smith and David A. Smith of Buxton, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Ashberry and Thelma South, both of Matthews, Va.; four grandchildren, Lorie Davis and H. Gordon Davis, Jr., both of Rockwood, Tenn., Ame Williams of Raleigh, N.C., and Becky Smith of Greenville, N.C.; and many extra special friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Timothy L. Piland. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Volunteer E.M.S., P.O. Box 2454, Kill Devil Hills, N.C., 27948. The family will receive friends at the home of Gary and Pam Broughton, 111 Shore Drive, Portsmouth.
