U.S. WILL KEEP FORCES IN S. KOREA

North Korea's agreement on nuclear monitoring won't cause the United States to reduce its forces in South Korea, Defense Secretary William Perry said Friday. However, the United States and South Korea have canceled this year's annual ``Team Spirit'' joint military exercise.

The cancellation was considered a largely symbolic step.

North Korea has pointed to the annual war games, which were scheduled for November, as a thinly disguised invasion rehearsal. South Korea and the United States maintain that they are in a defensive posture. by CNB
