A man charged with the February slaying of 35-year-old Nathaniel Williams in the Diggs Town neighborhood was acquitted of all charges Friday by a Circuit Court jury.
After deliberating 33 minutes, jurors found Linwood Powell, 29, not guilty of first-degree murder and use of a firearm. A drug possession charge was also deferred by prosecutors.
Williams was shot once in the head with a small-caliber handgun on Feb. 17 in the 1700 block of Vine St. A few hours later, Powell was arrested while asleep in his girlfriend's apartment a few doors away from the scene of the killing.
A witness testified that she saw Powell sitting with his feet up near a shed where Williams was shot, and heard Powell call to Williams as he was walking past on the night of the murder.
However, the witness never actually saw or heard the shooting.
