After standing at the ready off the coast of Haiti for more than a
month, the aircraft carrier America and its crew returned to the
Norfolk homeport Saturday. The America left Norfolk on Sept. 13 to
take part in the planned invasion of Haiti. The mission was unique
for its placement of Army special operations troops aboard to
conduct an operation traditionally carried out by Marines.
