Construction of Bayville Golf Club, an 18-hole golf course on about 200 acres near Pleasure House Creek, is scheduled to begin Nov. 7. The $6.5 million golf course will be built on Bayville Farms in Virginia Beach, a former dairy farm. Bengtson, DeBell & Elkin Ltd. received the engineering design contract.

NEW BUSINESSES

A new 2,250-square-foot men's clothing store, J. Riggings, has opened at Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake.

BUSINESS EXPANSIONS

Vandeventer, Black, Meredith & Martin has opened a new law office in the Lloyd's Building in London, England. The law firm, founded more than a century ago as a maritime firm, serves clients in the areas of maritime, commercial, general litigation and government contracts.

MERGERS

Talbot Group, Forterra Corp., and Walsh/Ashe Associates Inc. in Virginia Beach have merged into the architectural/construction firm known as The TAF Group. The new group, located at Landmark Square in Virginia Beach, will have a staff of 70 architects, engineers, planners, land surveyors and construction managers.

HONORS, AWARDS

Ramada Franchise Systems Inc. gave the chain's top honor, the Ramada Inn Food Service of the Year award, to the Ramada Resort Oceanfront Tower on 57th Street in Virginia Beach. The hotel's 200-seat seafood restaurant, Gus' Mariner Restaurant, competed with more than 500 Ramada Inns. Head chef Tom Evaldi has supervised the kitchen for the past 11 years.
