Mrs. Lucy Hand Ricks, age 77, a resident of Clarksbury Road, Boykins, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 1994, at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk.
She was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and daughter of the late Willie and Lelia Story Hand. She was a member of Clarksbury Baptist Church and was serving as secretary/treasurer of the church at the time of her death. She was a member of the Clarksbury Community Circle of the church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Edward Ricks Jr.; a son, Jimmy R. Ricks of Boykins; two daughters, Barbara Ricks Cale of Roper, N.C., and Bertha Ricks Bradshaw of Franklin; a sister, Ethel Hand Lee of Boykins; five grandchildren, Lynn Cale Bassett of Boone, N.C., D. Wayne Cale of Edenton, N.C., Chris M. Bradshaw of Clover, Va., Amy Lucy Ricks and James Richard Ricks, both of Boykins; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Bassett and Julianna Bassett, both of Boone, N.C.
A funeral service will be held in Clarksbury Baptist Church, Boykins, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1994, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Durward Vaughan and the Rev. J.B. Jarrett. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, is handling arrangements.
