BIGEYE THE BIG STORY OFF THE OUTER BANKS

Some of the hottest bigeye tuna fishing in years has developed off Oregon Inlet on the North Carolina Outer Banks.

The biggest reported fish was a 220-pounder, caught by Robert Bishop of Arlington, fishing with skipper Buddy Cannady on the charter boat Capt. B.C. But scores of fish in excess of 100 pounds have been caught by charter and private boats out of the inlet.

Elsewhere, Charlie Fender of Chesapeake has been finding big largemouth bass at Lake Meade in Suffolk. On successive days he had four fish in excess of 7 pounds, the largest 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

Some good hauls of speckled trout have been recorded from Eastern Shore bayside creeks to Hatteras Inlet on the Outer Banks. Many fish have topped 4 pounds, but the biggest of recent days was a 6 1/2-pounder caught at Rudee Inlet by Richard Hohl of Virginia Beach.
