ANNIE C. RIVERS

Annie C. Rivers, 95, a homemaker, died Oct. 24, 1994, in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Rivers was born in Washington, D.C., Sept. 3, 1899. She was predeceased by her husband, Mr. John Lawrence Rivers, her parents, Mr. Charles A. Copperthite and Mrs. Elizabeth Dunn Copperthite. Mrs. Rivers was an active member of the Norfolk chapter of the Navy Mothers Club, during WWII. She was a devoted member of Eastern Shore Chapel, contributing as a tireless volunteer for church activities. She was a dedicated member of the Princess Anne Circle for the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, sustaining her volunteer effort even after she was declared legally blind. As of July, 1994, Mrs. Rivers had contributed 3266 hours of service, passing the honorary 3000 hour milestone in 1990.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. John Charles Rivers and his wife Gloria, Bath, N.C., and Mr. Wilson Lawrence Rivers and his wife ``Sugie'', Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Mr. John Rivers, Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Susan R. Bryant, Richmond, Va., Mrs. Lesley R. Cullen, Germantown, Tenn., Mr. Scott Rivers and Mr. Randolph Rivers, Virginia Beach; and six great grandchildren, Jamie, Jodie and Jillian Rivers, Raleigh, N.C., Kathrine Bryant, Richmond, Va., and Michelle and Ben Cullen, Germantown, Tenn.

A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday Oct. 28, 1994, at Eastern Shore Chapel, 2020 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Andrew MacBeth and the Rev. Gary Rowe. At 1 p.m. the body will lie in state at which time the family will be in the church parlor of the parish house to meet visitors and friends. Burial will be in the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Eastern Shore Chapel memorial fund or to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.
