GENEVA W. BERNARD

Geneva West Bernard, 84, died Oct. 24, 1994, in Portsmouth.

Mrs. Bernard was born in Norfolk. She retired from Hofheimer's shoe store after 40 years. She was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church, past matron of Miriam Chapter (NU)94 Order of the Eastern Star, past high priestess of Zulekia Court (NU)35 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine and a member of its Hillbilly Band, past directress of NOSAM IVES, past president of Ladies Shrine Club of Portsmouth and member of Scottish Rite Ladies. She was the widow of William Alton Bernard, Sr.

Survivors include a son, William A. Bernard, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Carol W. Bernard of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren, Holly Schoenhoff of Salem, Va., and William Robert Bernard of Chesapeake.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Thursday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds, Jr. The family will be at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donation may be made to Shriner's Crippled and Burned Children's Hospital c/o Khedive Temple. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be accorded at the grave.
