The state Department of Transportation is sponsoring a workshop next month to show groups and individuals how to compete for money under a grant program designed to enhance the state's road network.
The workshop will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at Tidewater Community College's Portsmouth Campus.
The $7 million in grants will be awarded to projects that increase the value or worth of a transportation project or make it more aesthetically pleasing. Past projects include preserving or upgrading Civil War and Colonial era sites, rehabilitating old railroad stations or constructing bike and pedestrian trails.
Applications for the 1995 grants are due by Jan. 31. Applications and brochures will be available at the workshop or by calling 1-800-44-ISTEA. All the grants will be awarded in spring by the Commonwealth Transportation Board. by CNB
