The City Council on Wednesday approved an agreement to build roads and install water and sewer lines in the privately owned Harbour View development.
The unanimous vote was the final bureaucratic hurdle for a project long touted by city officials as vital to Suffolk's economic future.
It paved the way for the developers, Harbour View Partners and Dominion Lands Inc., to begin construction next year.
Earlier this year, the city created a special taxing district for the development and agreed to spend about $3.5 million on road, water and sewer improvements in the area.
City officials say this debt will be paid off by charging new and current businesses in the development a special tax in addition to the regular real estate tax.
Harbour View Partners and Dominion Lands Inc. plan to spend $6.8 million to $7.3 million on improvements. by CNB
