BUXTON, N.C. - About 100 teams will take to the beaches of Hatteras Island this morning for the 37th annual Cape Hatteras Anglers surf-fishing tournament.
For the first time, it will be strictly a release event, with all beached fish measured, scored and then set free. The only exceptions will be made for anglers who want to keep their catches for personal consumption.
Another new feature will be a fishing-tackle show at the Cape Hatteras Anglers Clubhouse from 5 to 7 tonight. Admission will be free, with several regional and national lines of tackle on display.
Fishing action will be filmed by Bill Hitchcock, host of the popular television show ``Coastal Carolina,'' for showing at a later date.
The six-person teams will compete in four sessions today and Friday, with an individual contest, open to anyone, set for Saturday morning. by CNB
