Johnnie Garrett, 83, of the 900 block of Workwood Road, died Monday, Oct. 31, 1994, at his residence.
Mr. Garrett was born in Edenton, N.C., and was a retired warehouseman from the Naval Air Station. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a member of the Male Choir and the Mamie Lee Missionary Circle. He was also past master of Malachi Lodge (NU)136, AF & AM.
Survivors include his wife, Lala; one son, Joseph L. Garrett Sr. of Oxon Hill, Md.; one daughter, Joyce Slater of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two sisters, Goldie Garrett of Edenton, N.C. and Clotte Holley of New York City; five grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Cynthia Garrett and Tracee Falconer of Norfolk, Shaunta Atwater of Maryland and Jamaal Slater of New York; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Peter M. Wherry. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
