COMMUNITY FORUMS OFFERED

NONPROFIT COMMUNITY groups can take their members onto the Internet with online Community Forums, a new service offered by The Virginian-Pilot and InfiNet, a local Internet provider.

The forums are free to nonprofit clubs and organizations. They will operate like a bulletin board, allowing groups to post timely information for their members or to hold online discussions.

The Community Forums will be part of the Internet's popular Usenet discussion groups. They will be formed by InfiNet, but will be available to other local Internet providers.

InfiNet is Hampton Roads' largest provider of home Internet connections. The Virginian-Pilot published the Pilot Online through InfiNet, offering classified ads the night before publication, reprints of selected local stories and easy-to-use pointers to the vast resources of the Internet.

InfiNet is offering members of community groups a discount off its sign-up fee. Groups with more than 10 new members joining InfiNet will also receive one free online account.

For an application form and other information, call 640-5555, category 4638 (I-NET). Have a fax number or mailing address ready.

For questions about the Community Forums, call Chris Kouba, managing editor for online services, at 446-2991. by CNB
