You can expect to see four of the five members of this year's All-TCIS girls basketball team again next year.
To nobody's surprise, tournament champion Nansemond-Suffolk Academy placed two players on the first team - sophomore and tournament MVP Ann Murden and junior Jill VanGuilder.
They are joined by Norfolk Academy sophomore Kendra Robins and Norfolk Christian junior Jacque Macklem. Greenbrier Christian's Casey Montgomery is the only senior selected.
Montgomery, a 5-foot-7 forward, finished the regular season fifth in the TCIS in scoring with a 14.4 point average.
``She is a great kid,'' Greenbrier coach Cal Woolard said. ``The biggest problem with Casey is that we had to play her all the time.
``She did everything we asked of her and who knows what more she could have dome if we could have rested her every now and then.''
Montgomery also carries a 4.17 grade-point average.
Macklem led the conference in scoring with 430 points and a 21.5 point average.
``She is one of the quickest guards in the conference,'' Christian coach Wendy Walker said. ``She is real quick off the dribble and she added a three-point shot this year.
``She anticipates really well and her intensity on the court raises the team's intensity.''
Robins was second on the scoring list at 18.6 points per game.
Norfolk Academy coach Joanne Renn can't say enough about what Robins means to her team.
``She's a real special kid,'' Renn said. ``We are real fortunate to have her.
``She doesn't concern herself with her stats. You'll catch some kids looking at the scorebook now and then, but Kendra is very focused on the bottom line - winning.
``She doesn't even know how good she is.''
Robins' strength may be her youth and the fact that she still has time to get even better, which doesn't bode well for the Bulldogs' competition.
Renn said Robins never stops wanting to learn and she ``listens to everything you ask of her. She just wants to please so badly.''
When it comes to the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints, the only thing more difficult than beating them may be choosing just a few All-Conference players.
``We have such a balanced attack, none of our leading scorers is in the top five of the conference,'' coach Larry Riggs said.
VanGuilder, who was also named to the team last year, was sixth in scoring with a 14.3-point average.
``Jill and Ann are right there beside each other,'' Riggs said. ``But this whole team is so talented. With the exception of Norfolk Academy, I don't think anybody else has anyone who can start for us.''
N-SA added two players to the honorable mention list with Leslie Greskevitch and Lea Wilson. But it wasn't until the all-tournament team was selected last weekend that Katherine Stewart got the attention that Riggs thought she deserved.
``I just have to say that Stewart is the glue in our defense,'' Riggs said. ``If she doesn't protect the ball we don't win.''
